On June 28th, Pitt Community College (PCC) broke ground on their new Welding Building, located in Winterville. Designed by JKF Architecture, the facility is approximately 32,000 SF and will immediately emerge as one of the largest facilities for welding education in North Carolina.

The building includes multiple fabrication bays for both beginner-level and advanced welding, as well as a robotics welding lab. It includes multiple general-purpose classrooms located in close proximity to the lab, faculty offices, conference area, and restrooms. The fabrication labs have been designed with large rollup doors at multiple points of entry that opens directly to the exterior of the building to accommodate either large equipment or offer additional covered outdoor lab space when necessary. A large, fenced-in yard is located behind the building for storage and secure outdoor training space. With multiple welding manufacturing facilities, welding/fabrication shops, pressure vessel fabricators, piping companies, boat manufacturers, and construction-based fabrication shops located nearby, this new building will train the next generation of welders for years to come.
